# Proxmark3 X

Proxmark3 X is a portable RFID research and development device with USB, Bluetooth Classic, a built-in battery, and an independent LF mode. Use a matching Proxmark3 client and firmware for interactive LF/HF operations.

## Hardware Controls

| Control | Purpose |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Mode 0 | USB operation |
| Mode 1 | Bluetooth operation |
| Mode 2 | Independent LF operation |
| PM3 button | Client-requested actions and firmware / bootloader workflows |
| LF Read / Write buttons | Supported independent LF operations in Mode 2 |

The product has Micro-USB and USB-C connections. Its published hardware architecture consists of the LF antenna board, middle extension board, and Proxmark3 base board.

## Radio and Firmware Compatibility

The documented LF hardware targets 125 kHz operation; do not assume 134 kHz support from the upstream client's protocol list. HF operates at 13.56 MHz with supported protocol commands determined by the firmware and client.

Factory firmware packages and current custom builds have different version requirements. For custom RRG builds, Proxmark3 X uses `PM3GENERIC` with `BTADDON`; its factory description as RDV4-compatible does not mean the RDV4 build target is correct for a new custom build.

Start with [Connection and Platform Setup](/hardware/rfid-nfc-and-uhf-hardware/proxmark3-x/quickstart.md), then inspect `hw version` before selecting update files.
